Objectives The University of Michigan is pleased to present the 12th Annual Practical Updates in Anesthesiology. The course is designed to provide the anesthesia provider with a review of the most recent information of the many components that go into making a successful practice of anesthesiology. You won’t find a better CME value or a friendlier venue! Highlights for this year’s course will include: ultrasound imaging for regional blocks, vascular access, and transthoracic echocardiography with an internationally-known echocardiologist. We plan to have several portable ultrasound machines available for some hands-on experience. In addition, we will have several lectures on ethical issues of informed consent for adolescents and in the perioperative environment. New approaches to the chronic pain patient, the latest in the glucose control controversy, and an update on the recent ACC/AHA guidelines for the cardiac patient for non-cardiac surgery are also featured. The drug addicted medical provider and the midnight interventional radiology case will also be presented. Finally we will continue our ever popular case discussions and as always - audience participation is enjoyed by all.
