Objectives • To provide an overview of Healthcare-associated infections with a focus on those caused by multi-drug resistant organisms: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus, Multi-drug-resistant gram negative bacteria, Multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, Clostridium difficile • Discuss the optimal therapeutic management of Healthcare-associated infections • Define the components of an effective antimicrobial stewardship program and discuss its role in the control of multi-drug resistant organisms • Assess the current evidence and identify effective infection control strategies for prevention of transmission of multi-drug resistant organisms • Review quality improvement initiatives and pay for performance measures linked tohealthcare-associated infections
