The activity reviews the latest developments in the understanding of the normal anatomy and function of the pelvic floor as a background for evaluating and managing the various alterations critically using currently available tools. Focusing on the circumstances leading to deleterious effects of parturition and surgical treatment on pelvic floor and organ function, it reviews the added effect of ageing on bladder and urethral functions in deciding on the optimal long term choice of treatment.
