Description The activity reviews the latest developments in the understanding of the normal anatomy and function of the pelvic floor as a background for evaluating and managing the various alterations critically using currently available tools. Focusing on the circumstances leading to deleterious effects of parturition and surgical treatment on pelvic floor and organ function, it reviews the added effect of ageing on bladder and urethral functions in deciding on the optimal long term choice of treatment. Potential hazards of the latest technological innovations and their avoidance and management are reviewed. A full day of hands-on anatomical laboratory session allows an in-depth review of the detailed anatomy of the pelvic floor and surgical anatomical landmarks; a comprehensive experience in pelvic reconstructive surgery.
